Historical genetics: Spatiotemporal analysis of the formation of the Brazilian population.
Callegari-Jacques SM et al.
A total of 1,037 individuals living in five different sociogeographic regions of Brazil were studied in relation to 12 short tandem repeat polymorphisms. The objective was to assess the degree of European, African, and Amerindian contributions to their gene pools. Although most of the genetic variability was found within regions, significant differences were also observed between regions. The estimated relative proportions of the above-indicated continental contributions showed intermediate values between those obtained with uniparental (mtDNA, Y-chromosome) data, and a higher percentage of European heritage as compared to previous autosome results. A north-south trend of increasing European contribution was also found, in agreement with the history of the Brazilian population.
What kind of English is this? The wording in this article does not make any sense.
Are you saying the Brazil's population is mostly of European origin? But that cannot be true, since the recent reseach carried out by Doctor Pena and associates have shown the most Brazilians, even those who claim that they are 'white', are of mixed origin.
But, please present your text in a more reader friendly fashion.
Your text - "The estimated relative proportions of the above-indicated continental contributions showed intermediate values between those obtained with uniparental (mtDNA, Y-chromosome) data, and a higher percentage of European heritage as compared to previous autosome results. A north-south trend of increasing European contribution was also found, in agreement with the history of the Brazilian population." does not make much sense.
Thank you.

Unfortunately, the article was not worth the paper it was printed on.
The researcher wanted to prove how white Brazil really is. He went to the most white-European cities in Brazil to collect his sample population for the test, and then performed tests on those mostly white people to show how white Brazil really was. What a waste!!
The numbers, which the results of the tests showed were truly pathetic.
For example, this research paper showed that the average North-Eastern person from Brazil had only 15% African gene pool and only 2% Amerindian gene. On the other hand, the tests showed the average Nordestino had 83% European blood. We all know that this is crap. Most North-Easterners are black or mixed racial, not white. They have at least as much African gene in them as white.
Similarly, the tests showed that the average Northerner from Brazil had only 15% Amerindian gene and 5% African gene. The average Northerner this test showed possessed 80% European gene. We also know this is crap. Most Northern Brazilians are people of mostly Amerindian origin with some mixed African racial origin. They are surely not mostly white European.
We all know this is white supremacist garbage.
We have white supremacist researchers doing scientific research to prove racist doctrines. These are people who want to show how white Brazil really is. They want to 'whiten' the proud African and Amerindian heritage of Brazil through flawed tests. The research of Sergip Pena was far better and was more correct and unbiased, then this racist and biased research.
Since, the racist scientists knew they could hontesly show Brazil to be a mostly Black and Amerindian nation, since in reality most Brazilians are people of color and not white, they come up with racist and totally biased scientific tests to prove their incorrect point.
The concept of 'whitening', so prevalent among the bigots of Brazil showed themselves quite clearly in this racist research paper.
We must pay special attention to the subjects who were used in the test. For example, most people in brazil who are rich are white and most who are poor are mixed racial or black and Native.
The samples, which was used for these tests, tended to use mostly white Europeans as subjects.
For example, no attempt was made to classify people according to morphological traits, like those carried out by Doctor Pena. Hence, mostly European descended people were used as subjects.
But ofcourse, if you use a mostly white sample, the tests would obviously show that Brazilians are mostly white (which we know is totally false).
Also, the test made use of people who could pay for these tests. In Brazil only rich white people can afford to pay for the expensive lab tests. Most poor people in Brazil, who are made up of mostly people of color, do not have the means to pay for such expensive test.
Even the researcher himself agreed that the sample was not 'too European derived', hinting that the sample was already corrupted and biased with too many European subjects, who could afford to pay for the tests.
So, as I said this paper is truly biased and was not worth the paper it was written on.
Posted by: None at November 12, 2003 05:38 PMi am from Brazil, and I know what a brazilian is. The image of MIX and MIX is what people WANT to see of Brazil. It depends WHERE you go in Brazil. If you go to Rio de Janeiro, youŽll see that most of them are mixed of WHITE and BLACK. If you go to the North, youŽll see that most of them are mixed of INDIAN and WHITE. If you go to the South, youŽll see most of them are WHITE, because of the big GERMAN and ITALIAN immigration. If you go to the State of BAHIA, youŽll most of the are BLACK. 55% of brazilian are white, 38% are mixed black, whiute and indian and 1% per cent is asian, indian or arabic. And itŽs really dificult to find a REALLY black brazilian, ''black'' people always have a white grandfather, or a indian grand-grandfather. If compare the BLACK from Brazil and from AFRICA, youŽll that they are mixed. So itŽs difficult to say I AM ONLY BLACK, because slaves come to Brazil since 1500, and they are mixing for all those times, and the BIG EUROPEAN IMMIGRATION to brazil began in the final of the ninth century. Of course, some racist people that are mixed say I AM WHITE, but we have to see that in 500 years came to Brazil 26 million of european and 4 million of africans...take your conclusion
