"Nevertheless, when the taxonomic term is used consistently across species, it’s difficult to see any justification for the common assertion that human races are merely ‘social constructs.’ The motivation behind the assertion is a positive one, but denying biological realities at the outset is unlikely to lead to productive social dialogue on coping with human differences."
Posted by Dienekes at January 26, 2004 09:47 PM | PermaLinkYo, Dienekes, you should post some of the info from that article in Scientific American. You know, the one about whether there is race or not. I'm sure you've seen it.
Very interesting read. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Posted by: Polak at January 26, 2004 10:25 PMI already read the race FAQ's, really interesting stuff is in this article.
But I dont know the other one so far, can you post it Dienekes or can you give me the link Polak?
Posted by: Chris at January 27, 2004 04:44 AMDoes anyone know what % of our genes we share(d) with Neanderthals?
I recall reading that the gap between homo sapiens and Neanderthals was twice as large as the gap between Caucasoids and sub-Saharan Africans, but i don't recall the source (it didn't seem very reliable to me).
Posted by: Nigel at January 27, 2004 08:20 AMHey Chris,
Nah, I don't have the link. I've got the article in print. It came out recently. It may even be in the current copy of SA, not sure, don't have it in front of me.
