This is great! I remember when some or all of the World Cup was held here in Chicago in 1994, at Soldier Field. I don't remember Greece winning any games. I think they were the worst team in the tournament. We had a great Greek-American soccer player who is from Chicago and who played on the champion Chicago Fire soccer team in the 1990s, Frank Klopas.

Cheers ;)
Congratulations to Yavan. :)
Posted by: Melnorme at July 6, 2004 09:12 AMCongratulations to the Greeks, they totally deserved to win, playing with great spirit and confidence throughout the tournament.
I think a word of praise is also due their German coach, who organized the Greek team very well, and harnassed their full potential.
It just goes to show what can be done with belief, hard work and tremendous team play - in fact the latter is what distinguished them from all other teams - as they played unselfishly throughout. Many other teams had bigger individual stars, but none had the team spirit of the Greeks.
I think this will shake up the complacency of the major soccer powers in Europe!

Take Care.
